Vietnam’s tourism industry has flipped the regional travel landscape on its head, with Chinese visitors pouring in at record levels and propelling total international arrivals to new heights.
According to official statistics, Vietnam welcomed more than 21.2 million foreign tourists in 2025, a 20 % jump from the previous year and its highest tally ever — surpassing the 2019 pre-pandemic peak. China, long the region’s largest source of outbound travelers, accounted for roughly 5.3 million visitors, a dramatic 41 % increase that made it the dominant driver of the boom.
This surge reflects shifting travel preferences across Asia, as Chinese tourists increasingly choose Vietnam’s proximity, culture, and relaxed entry rules over traditional destinations. South Korea and other markets also posted strong gains, but none matched China’s impact on Vietnam’s tourism rebound.
The influx is reshaping Southeast Asia’s tourism hierarchy and injecting fresh momentum into Vietnam’s broader economy, as the country positions itself as a top destination for leisure and short-haul inbound travel in 2026.
