Weather System Near Philippines May Strengthen and Later Affect Vietnam

Satellite data shows a strengthening weather system near the Philippines that could develop into a tropical storm and later bring rain and rough seas to Vietnam.
PAGASA

A low-pressure area (LPA) that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Thursday may develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.

The system was located about 1,000 kilometers east of southeastern Mindanao and is moving west-northwest. If it strengthens into a tropical storm, it will be named Ada.

PAGASA said the disturbance is expected to bring rain to parts of Mindanao and the Visayas, with possible flooding in Eastern Samar, Northern Mindanao, and Sarangani.

Forecasters say that if the system continues moving west after passing near or across the Philippines, it could enter the South China Sea and influence weather in Vietnam later next week, particularly through increased rainfall and rough seas.

Authorities say it is too early to determine the exact track or strength, and residents are advised to monitor official updates.
